I was the 8th of 9 children born to a Dutch immigrant family in nearby Ladner. My childhood was saturated with the gospel through the lives of my godly parents and the strong immigrant community that faithfully cared for one another. I committed my life to following Jesus when I was 8 years old, made a public profession of my faith when I was 15, and have always found opportunities to serve and grow within the church. During my university years, I fell in love both with God’s Word and with the joy of sharing it.
I began my teaching career in Edmonton, where I met Bill in 1983. We married the following year. After a 10-month Discipleship Training School with YWAM, we settled in Alberta. Bill ran his packaging company there while I kept busy raising four kids, teaching and serving in various capacities.
Our move to Langley in 2000 brought us to the NLCC community. We were immediately drawn to the excellent teaching and the depth of committed lives among its members. During our years here I have had the opportunity to serve in children’s ministry, Alpha, prayer ministry, women’s events, summer camps and as both a mentor and a life group leader. I always find that it’s in serving that I grow most as I learn to depend on God.
I enjoy deep conversations, long walks, the sincerity of a child, great coffee, a captivating book, soft jazz, the seashore, gardening, playing piano, sketching, writing and hanging out with the people I love.
I consider it an honour to be able to serve NLCC as an elder. I deeply love this church family and trust our sovereign Father’s timing in opening this new door. I am passionate about seeing people encounter God and grow to be like him and it is my deep desire that I will serve my King with all that I am for as long as I am able.
